Embroidered Jellyfish Have Tendrils Extending Beyond the Hoop for the Fluidity of the Real Thing

Enjoy the beau­ty of the ocean with Yuliya Kucherenko’s sea-inspired embroi­deries. Using a com­bi­na­tion of thread paint­ing, nee­dle felt­ing, and bead­ing, she cre­ates dynam­ic jel­ly­fish embroi­deries. Her painter­ly stitch­ing style cap­tures the flu­id­i­ty of these crea­tures as their ten­drils extend beyond the hoop. Because they are not tacked to any fab­ric, the embroi­deries evoke the same free­dom as their inspirations.

The styling of the embroi­deries is impor­tant here, too. To fur­ther the feel­ing that these are jel­ly­fish, Yuliya has placed the tulle-stretched fab­ric hoops against lay­ers of blue and green tulle and includ­ed seashells to cre­ate her own fab­ric ocean.
