Are you in need of some­thing fun to try at home? If you’re an embroi­der­er who is look­ing to switch things up, try punch nee­dle! It’s a form of embroi­dery that is sim­i­lar to rug hook­ing. Instead of bring­ing your nee­dle through the fab­ric, you’ll use the spe­cial punch nee­dle to push yarn (or thread) through it. The whole time, you hold the device above the “right” side of the fabric.

You can get a punch nee­dle at your local craft store—or, con­sid­er­ing what’s pos­si­ble now—var­i­ous places online. (Etsy is a great resource.)

Once you have your sup­plies, find a pat­tern to stitch! It can be daunt­ing with all the choic­es out there, but I’ve nar­rowed down 16 of my favorite punch nee­dle kits and patterns.
