Fiber artist Juniper Wolfen­barg­er cre­at­ed an embroi­dered scene that is stun­ning in its use of tech­nique and atten­tion to detail. The cozy piece is titled inner com­fort ii and fea­tures a sleepy kit­ty nes­tled in a flo­ral-print blan­ket, a tiny deck of tarot cards, acorns scat­tered on the table, and a bot­tle of ink and quill sit­ting next to it. And that’s just the table! There’s even more to see; it tells the sto­ry of a dreamy, idyl­lic scene.

Juniper’s embroi­dery is a great exam­ple of how much visu­al depth can be achieved with a few basic stitch­es. Their work incor­po­rates a lot of thread paint­ing to bring the details to life, along with the satin and split stitch­es. Togeth­er, the tech­niques show­case how illus­tra­tion and embroi­dery often go hand-in-hand.
