Jennifer Davis is a Minnesota-based artist whose surreal portraits reflect a highly selective color palette and simplified way of drawing. I find them unusual and beautiful as they mix flora, animals, and create hybrid creatures.
If you’re local to Minneapolis, Minnesota, Davis has a new show, Joyride, at Public Functionary until April 25th. The work included in the show is the result of a 8‑cities-in-8-days road trip that Davis took in 2013 to research and document vintage America carousels. Additionally, it’s inspired by the ride’s iconic horses as well as classic carousel vignette paintings. I’ve included a few images from the show, but check more out here. It looks incredible.
