I first learned about Enrico Nagel’s work through a submission, and he has a lot of interesting stuff on his website. They include: Portraits created on a scanner bed that don’t rely on a the gaze of a photographer; Replacing models’ heads with flowers; Replacing many heads with inanimate objects. Much of his work is photographic collage, which as we can see has an odd way of making anything believable. I think it’s the fact that our brain is trained to believe that photography isn’t a lie, so to see it used as a collage element can create a cognitive dissonance.
