Using pattern, structure, and repetition, artist Bianca Pratorius crafts soft felt sculptures that are affixed to the wall. These forms remind me of an article of clothing, like a soft scarf or fringe. They are comforting in that way, which is partially the point of Bianca’s work.
In her artist statement, she writes, “Her work arises out of a desire to organize and secure her own reality in a world that is becoming increasingly more chaotic and interdependent.” Going to say, “The materials themselves are essentially simple even unremarkable when viewed in their raw state, but lend themselves beautifully to repetition and expansion thus becoming the perfect counterbalance to the structures she creates with them.”
I agree.
