The polaroid photograph is the quintessential quick image. Sometimes composed, sometimes candid, the appeal of these images is their immediacy. Embroidery artist Artemis reimagines instant film with their intricate stitched snapshots of landscapes. The colorful scenery features fields, forests, and flowers that are stitched on paper in a polaroid format. Of course, embroidery takes much longer than the development of an instant picture. This juxtaposition is what makes Artemis’ work so alluring—that it turns the picture format on its head. And of course, the embroidery is beautiful, too!

The original works are for sale on Etsy. To see what Artemis is up to next, follow the artist on Instagram.
