Animals can be helpful in your everyday life… even if they’re inanimate. Australian ceramicist Susan Simonini crafts small animal vessels resembling bears, bunnies, koalas, and more to hold small items and keep your jewelry organized.

Each is a darling portrait of the creature that is accented with a variety of surface treatments. This is in keeping with Susan’s overall approach towards her work. “I allow the process itself to determine the end product, whether it be a piece of art or a functional object,” she writes. “I have always embraced the imperfect form—the uneven edge, the asymmetrical shape, the imprint of a finger left by the maker.” Writing that each piece and variety of clay lends itself to different surface treatments, she allows those to help determine how (and how much) she will decorate an item.

Susan sells her work on her website as well as through Etsy. Follow her on Instagram for updates!
