Some of the most interesting collages are made through unexpected assemblages. Textile designer Tuija Heikkinen is a great example of this; she uses crochet techniques and embroidery over-stitching to create slice-of-life imagery. The individual elements, such as a cut piece of fruit or a figure skater are individually crafted and then placed into compositions that tell a story.
This isn’t the first time I’ve featured Tuija’s crochet art. I follow her on Instagram and continually charmed by her creations. Often, they follow the seasons, and the works shown here are her interpretation of autumn and winter. Basically, darkness, warm cups of tea, and cute sweaters to wear while figure skating. It’s accurate!
