Today, I wanted to share with you the beginnings of a project for eyra, the online illustration gallery that I started during my last year in graduate school. eyra hosts exhibitions with illustrators in an online space.
I’ve long been interested in embroidery, both personally and the work of others. So, it seemed only natural that I plan a show around this medium. The upcoming eyra show is titled Sampler, and will feature the work of 6 talented illustrators. It is opening on Halloween — October 31 — on eyra.co, of course.
Additionally, I like to organize things (such as the Collage Scrap Exchange) and wanted to do more. For Sampler, I took a slightly different approach to a show about embroidery. While each illustrator is going to produce individual works for the show, they are also collaborating on one large piece. That’s what you see here!
I’m really excited about this project, and was not disappointed when I received the first round from the lovely Sarajo Frieden. What I like most about her work is her shape design and unique sense of color, and I think her this captures it nicely. The piece is now off to Lorena Marañón (take a look at her jewelry, okay?), and I can’t wait to see how this collaboration changes.
Awesome packaging from Sarajo. I like the instant book (folded piece on top of the tissue paper) that doubles as a promo tool.
