Via Vintage Kids’ Book my Kid Loves
Of the many happy memories from my childhood, reading books by Richard Scarry was one of them. The character design, busy scenes, Easter eggs, and even the titles of his stories have stuck with me into adulthood.
Richard Scarry was a prolific children’s book author, illustrating from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. His works included anthropomorphic animals, and most often depicted them doing things that humans would do .
My favorite part was when we’d read Cars and Trucks and Things that Go and my brother and I would race to find the Goldbug that was hidden on each page. Later, when looking and creating my own illustrations, I was really drawn to images that have this Easter Egg aspect to them.
